Restoration Process
Our primary focus is on safe and responsive service.
Service work begins with repairs to major substations, transmission or distribution lines prior to the individual service lines that connect your home to the power grid. This allows us to restore service to as many people as possible in a timely manner.
Since electricity flows from the power plant through a transmission line to a substation, then to a distribution line and finally to individual service lines, it is important to focus first on the primary energy delivery lines. If affected, transmission lines, substations and larger distribution lines must be repaired first or there will be no power available to flow to individual homes or businesses.
Sometimes you may see our trucks drive through your neighborhood and then leave. We are not ignoring your outage. We are assessing the extent and location of the damage to help ensure effective and timely service restoration.
We realize that electric service interruptions are a major inconvenience, and through our local service crews, who are also your neighbors, we're committed to restoring service as quickly as possible. In many cases, we also bring in additional service crews from across our service area, as well as contract crews, to help local crews in their efforts.
While there is no way to pinpoint exactly how long it will take to restore service, our service personnel work with local emergency officials and the media to keep you informed.
