How KCP&L Prepares for Storms
When weather forecasters predict storms for KCP&L's electric service territory, we are prepared. Our highest priority is to provide you with safe, reliable energy service. If weather interrupts your power, we are committed to safely restoring it as soon as possible.
- We have arrangements with outside contractors to send crews if needed to help restore electric service.
- We can mobilize KCP&L line and service crews from surrounding areas not affected by a storm.
- We have working relationships with key suppliers to assure that materials will be available when needed.
- We maintain relationships and communications with local emergency officials to coordinate efforts.
- We stay in touch with the media to provide ongoing service restoration updates.
KCP&L has an excellent track record in regard to limited service interruptions: from January 2006 through January 2007, KCP&L's customers had continuous electric service an average 99.98 percent of the time, above the industry average.
